| I live on the beautiful Isle of Man, in a little house at the edge of Glen Elfin, surrounded by trees, perched on the slopes of North Barrule, and spend an irrational amount of time with the cats, watching the birdies outside the window, when I should be working. I've been a freelance illustrator since 1989 and have produced all manner of work for all types of clients, including The Manx Museum, Isle of Man Post Office, Okells Ales, various banks and trust companies, private commissions, and have even interior designed a supermarket. I've drawn allsorts from; reconstruction illustrations of Viking longhouses (extremely interesting), the inside of a nasal cavity (not so interesting), caricatures of ex-gangsters (kinda scary) to Manx folklore hairy beasties (great fun). Favourite medium is definitely pencil, it is just the best for getting from brain to paper. I do love messing around with media that isn't necessarily meant to end up on paper, but seems to do the job I'm after. Moddey Dhoo's eyes ended up being glittery nail varnish over liquid paper. Worked a treat. I also find I work well with chocolate! email juliaashbysmyth@manx.net |
